I grew up with them.
Mom would pack us kids up in the neighbor's station wagon for a night of fun at the local Drive-In.
8 of us in one car! My mom, my sis, my brother, me and the two little girls from next door and their mommy.
We all played on the playground at the front of the theater with out our mommy's.
We would run up and down the bumps and the isles.
(I'm really not as old as the moms look pictured above and our car was a Vega not a 1940 oldsmobile)
The lights would blink twice and we would run back to our cars and hook up the speakers to the windows.
If we were really good we would get to go to the snack bar at intermission.
I'm not even gonna talk about the teenage date nights at the Drive-In! Yikes!
I missed them so much ,that last summer
We had us a back yard movie night. (back when we had a back yard)
We got some jumbo size movie Candy Bars and Popcorn tubs.
We even had hot dogs wrapped like they do at the movies.
We set up some chairs some blankets on the grass, a few lights, a big wall...
We borrowed a projector from my Uncle and we were ready to go!
We invited some good old friends from High school
(that's why the high school year books are on the blanket)
So we decided to see a good old movie...
Billy Jack
(not recommended for children under 21) even if it is 30+ years old
A classic!
We all loved this movie...Some of us could say the lines word for word.
at one point in the evening we were All singing
One Tin Soldier
The guy in the back row, with his arm in the air believes he is Billy Jack.
We opted for wine and beer rather then soda pop.
It was lots of fun and I would recommend it to anyone with a back yard, friends, a projector and a classic old movie!
I want to do another one with Grease!
What old classic movie would you pick?

Hi Michelle! I love your blog and your comments you left. I'm actually checking with my parents if they have photos from when I got the fork in my face (it sounds so funny whenever the story is told). I look forward to sharing it on my blog soon.
Now YOUR blog is beautiful. I'm a beach lover, big time! This is such a perfect idea that you shared with everyone. I'm going to have to be creative and figure out how to do this in my backyard come summer. :)
Have a beautiful evening my new friend!! xoxo
What a great idea!!
I would probably pick Scarface (one of my favorites). I know it was only from 1983, but it's a classic.
My husband and I used to go to a drive-in theater during our summers up in New England when we were in college. I had never been before and I thought it was so much fun.
That was such a great idea to have one in your back yard. All the effort you put into the set-up looks fantastic. That was creative. You definitely know how to entertain!
I have a great premise for a drive-in movie:
Ex-Green Beret hapkido expert saves wild horses from being slaughtered for dog food and helps protect a desert "freedom school" for runaway.
You are so much fun! Can we be friends? :)
So. Much. Fun.
i love this, it makes me want to do the same with my friends and family. i would probably pick a Molly Ringwald movie from the 80's i am lame like that!
OMG- I LOVE this idea!! :) We have a drive in theater about 30 miles from my house, but having it in your own backyard is even better!
I LOVE old movies- Audrey Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, etc. I also love Hitchcock movies. I think watching The Birds would be fun (especially being outside!)
Have a great day!
:)

I've been wanting to do that forever. We are the same, not much room in our little yard but, I hear there is a projector you can project right onto the side of your house or from a sheet hanging in a tree. You picked great movies and I love the treats and setup. What fun it must be at your house! Great post.
grease for sure..maybe a girls night with the color purple or beaches?
